Box Score NEW LONDON, N.H. – Junior Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine) scored a pair of second half goals in the regular season finale for the University of Maine at Farmington women's lacrosse team (5-7, 4-4). The Beavers fell, 15-5, to North Atlantic Conference rival Colby-Sawyer at Veitch Turf Field on Saturday.
The loss snapped a three-game winning streak the Beavers had compiled. Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) cut the Colby-Sawyer lead in half with a goal at the 26:43 mark but the Chargers added six goals before UMF could steal one back.
Sierra Gilley (Harspwell, Maine) charted the team's second score of the half on the assist from Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine).
Coming out of the break, Balboni and Kadnar teamed up in the second half to make some sort of push against the Colby-Sawyer scoring attack. Balboni notched her first goal of the game three minutes into the final period with an assist coming from Kadnar.
Kadnar scored a goal of her own with nine minutes remaining and Balboni added one more with twenty seconds left on the clock.
Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) stopped six shots in the contest with four coming in the second half.
UMaine-Farmington will wait until tomorrow to know where the team is headed in the North Atlantic Conference Tournament.
