NEW LONDON, N.H. – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team (17-17, 10-14) kept its playoff hopes alive with a doubleheader split at Colby-Sawyer College on Monday afternoon. Farmington's offense could only plate one run in a, 4-1, game-one loss but regrouped with a, 7-1, victory in game two.

The Beavers will have to wait until Tuesday evening to decide their playoff fate. Lyndon State plays at Colby-Sawyer on Tuesday afternoon for a doubleheader. If the Hornets sweep the twinbill, then UMF is eliminated from playoff contention. If Lyndon splits or fall in both contests, then UMF claims the final playoff spot in the North Atlantic Conference tournament, which kicks off this weekend.

The Chargers played small ball in the first game by laying down a bases-loaded bunt with nobody out in the fifth inning for the first run of the game. Colby-Sawyer added two more hits and added three more runs to the scoreboard for a, 4-0, lead.

UMF ruined the shutout with an RBI single from Jordan Croteau (So. Paris, Maine) to left field with two outs, but the Beavers' offense could not mount a rally.

Kyle Peterson (Bethel, Maine) tossed a complete game with four strikeouts and allowed the four earned runs on seven hits.

In the second game, Dustin McCrossin (Yarmouth, Maine) produced UMF's first run in the nightcap with an RBI groundout in the first inning.

After Mark Leahy (Rochester, N.H.) led off the third inning with a double down the left field line and moved to third on a groundout, Sean Cabaniss (Vassalboro, Maine) hit a sacrifice fly deep enough to center field for Leahy to trot home.

Farmington blew the game open with three runs in the fifth inning. McCrossin drove in his second run of the game with a single to left field and Tom Grady (Whitefield, Maine) lined an RBI single to right field on the next play. Ethan Gouin (Sidney, Maine) roped a double down the left field line, allowing Grady and McCrossin to score.

Croteau padded UMF's lead in the seventh inning with an RBI double to right field.

Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine) was lights out on the hill for the Beavers. The junior pitched a complete game three-hitter and struck out four Chargers.

UMaine-Farmington finishes the regular season on Tuesday with a nine-inning game in Orono against the Black Bears. The DI versus DIII matchup will start at 5:00 p.m. at Mahaney Field.
