Field Hockey Takes Down Colby-Sawyer in Defensive Battle

FARMINGTON, Maine- Emmah Spahr's (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) goal in the first half lifted The University of Maine at Farmington (6-1-0, 1-1-0) field hockey to a victory over Colby-Sawyer (8-3-0, 1-1-0) in a North Atlantic Conference match-up on Saturday.

Sarita Crandall (Farmington, Maine/Mt.Blue) sent a pass across the circle to the far post to Spahr who was waiting to knock home the eventual game winner in the 19th minute.  The goal was Spahrs' 12th of the season.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) stopped three shots to earn the win and the shutout, her second of the season.  Xena Ras saved three shots for the Chargers in the losing effort.

The Beavers held an advantage in shots (9-4) and also in penalty corners (12-8).

UMaine-Farmington travels to Bowdoin College on Wednesday.
