St. Joe's Hands Field Hockey First Home Loss of Season

Box Score

FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington field hockey (7-3) couldn't overcome two first half goals by Saint Joseph's College (8-5) losing for the first time this season on Prescott field, 2-0.

In a very evenly matched contest with both teams moving the ball from end to end, it was the Monks that cashed in first.  At 9:31 junior Elyse Caiazzo sent a crossing pass and found Samantha Silva open on the opposite post, Silva knocked it in for the 1-0 lead.

St. Joe's scored again just before halftime, Caiazzo dribbled into the circle and fired a shot past goalkeeper Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) at 21:43, giving St.Joe's the 2-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, neither team was able to get a shot past either goalkeeper.

Megan Baker (6-5) turned back all seven shots she faced on goal to get the win.  Smith (6-3) made five saves in the loss.

St.Joe's won the shots battle 13-11 and the corners margin 10-9.

UMaine-Farmington travels to Thomas College for a North Atlantic Conference showdown on Saturday.  St. Joe's will host Mount Ida on Saturday.
