Field Hockey takes down Terriers in NAC showdown

WATERVILLE, Maine- University of Maine at Farmington field hockey (8-3-0, 3-1-0) scored two first half goals and shutout Thomas College (3-10-0, 1-3-0) on Saturday morning in a North Atlantic Conference game.

Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt.Ararat) scored the first goal and eventual game winner in the 24th minute of the first half.  Raymond was able to pull the ball from a scramble in front of the cage and slam it home.  Emmah Spahr (Winthop, Maine/Winthrop) scored less than three minutes later to give the Beavers the final margin of victory.  The goal was Spahr's 16th of the season.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) made one save on the day to earn her third shutout fo the season and seventh win.  Abbie Carrier turned away 12 shots in defeat for the Terriers.

UMF won the shots battle 19-3 and the corners margin 10-2.

UMaine-Farmington will travel to Colby College on Wednesday for a non-conference game.  Thomas will host Plymouth State on Wednesday.
