Pilgrims Edge Women's Soccer in Overtime

FARMINGTON, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer (7-10-0, 5-4-0) was edged in overtime by New England College (12-5-1, 8-0-1) in the regular season finale for both teams on Sunday.

New England College senior forward Taylor Grant scored in the 35th minute to give the Pilgrims the 1-0 lead.  Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt. Blue) saved eight shots in the first half to keep UMF in the game.  NEC lead 1-0 at the  break.

UMF scored the tying goal in the 86th minute, Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) sent a pass into the box that found Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) for the score.  For Gleason, it was her 11th goal of the season.

In overtime, Jaycie Triandafilou made a charge down the right side and was able to find the back of the net for the game-winner.  

Thompson made 11 saves in the hard-luck loss.  Mackenzie Meegan didn't record a save in earning the win.

UMaine-Farmington will be the #6 seed in the upcoming NAC Championship and will travel to #3 seed Colby-Sawyer on Sunday.  NewEngland College earned #1 seed and will play the winner of Castleton and Maine Maritime.
