WATERVILLE, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington softball (1-12) was on the losing end of two walk-off home runs as the Beavers dropped a doubleheader at Colby College (5-5) on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action. UMF came up short, 2-1, in the first game and fell in the second contest, 11-1.

The first game was very much a pitcher's duel as Kailyn Hill (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon) surrendered only four hits.

Colby opened the game with a run in the first frame. The Mules used two straight walks to start the inning and then after a fielder's choice, Katie McLaughlin came home to score on a wild pitch.

The Beavers tied the game in the second inning at 1-1. Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine/Mt. Blue) reached on an error, stole second base, and scored on a single by Moesha Harrington (Wilton, Maine/Mt. Blue).

Leading off the bottom of the seventh inning, McLaughlin dug herself into an 0-2 count after a foul ball and a swinging strike. After a ball, McLaughlin homered to right field to stun the Beavers.

UMF led 1-0 after the first inning of the nightcap. Alison Hamilton (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) doubled to lead off the game, moved to third on Colby errors, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Margaret Fogarty (Auburn, Maine/St. Johnsbury Academy).

The Mules took control of the game with four runs in the second inning and totaled three home runs in game two. McLaughlin hit her second long ball of the afternoon to end the second game for the final margin of victory.

UMaine-Farmington opens conference play with a trip to New England College on Saturday, April 16.
