Husson Takes Doubleheader From UMF in Home Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

FARMINGTON, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington baseball (8-10, 1-7) dropped both games in a doubleheader with Husson University (13-10, 8-2) on Wednesday afternoon in the home opener with a 3-1 loss in the first game and 3-2 loss in the nightcap at Hippach Field.

Husson took the first lead of the afternoon in the top of the fourth inning when JT Whitten reached out and slapped a homerun over the right field fence. The Eagles added one more in the frame to claim a 2-0 advantage.

After Husson tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth, UMF answered in the bottom of the frame with its lone run. Tom Grady (Whitefield, Maine/Erskine Academy) broke up a no-hitter with an infield single and then moved into scoring position after a wild pitch. Grayson Beressi (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) launched a fly to center and after the catch, Grady moved to third and then came home to score after the throw sailed wide of third base.

The second game was similar to the first as the two squads were scoreless until the fourth inning when Husson cracked a two-run double. UMF bounced back in the bottom of the inning when Ben Keene (Livermore, Maine/Spruce Mountain) scored on a passed ball and then Jordan Croteau (South Paris, Maine/Oxford) tied the game with an RBI single two batter later.

Husson produced the final run of the afternoon in the top of the fifth inning after forcing a UMF error.

UMaine-Farmington hosts Lyndon State this weekend for a four-game series.
