Grady Breaks All-Time Hits Record in Saturday's Sweep of NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. -- University of Maine at Farmington baseball (15-12, 8-8) senior Tom Grady (Whitefield, Maine/Erskine Academy) broke the all-time hits record in Saturday's North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep of New England College (6-17, 5-10) on Saturday.

The Beavers came alive in the first game with a 7-2 win and then used a four-run sixth inning in game two to pull off an 8-6 comeback victory.

Grady came into the day only needing four hits to break Jon Ladd's program record of 113 career base hits. Grady hit 3-for-4 in the first game with an RBI and two runs scored and then doubled in the second game to break write a new page in the record books.

In the first game, UMF jumped out with a four-run first inning before tacking on three more in their final trip to the plate in the seventh inning. Ben Keene (Livermore, Maine/Spruce Mountain) and Grayson Beressi (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) also scored two runs apiece.

Nate Pushard (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) earned the complete game win on the hills. Pushard allowed just two earned runs on six hits while striking out three in seven innings of work.

In the second game, each team would plate two runs in the first inning. The Beavers took a 4-2 lead after a run in the third and fifth inning but the Pilgrims would take their first lead of the game with four runs in the fifth.

Farmington would get the runs back in the sixth as Jimmy Neal (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) would belt a three-run homer to right field. The Beavers added an insurance run when Keene lined an RBI single into right field.

Sean Cabaniss (Vassalboro, Maine/Erskine Academy) led the way at the plate for Farmington finishing 3-for-4 with three runs scored.

Jory Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) pitched 6 1/3 to earn the win before Brett Elliott (Danville, Vt./Danville) came in for the final two outs to get the save. 

UMaine-Farmington wraps up the weekend series with NEC on Sunday.
