Beavers Sweep Lyndon DH on Senior Day

FARMINGTON, Maine -- University of Maine at Farmington softball (6-17, 3-5) celebrated Senior Day with a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader sweep of Lyndon State College (2-24, 0-10) on Sunday afternoon at Prescott Field. 

The Beavers came alive for a combined 24 runs with a 9-1 win after the first game and 15-7 win in the final contest of the afternoon.

Lyndon grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning but UMF came back with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. The Beavers played small ball to take the lead by reaching on an error, stealing home, a bases loaded walk, and then an RBI infield single by Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy).

UMF added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Ashley Gleason (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) and Margaret Fogarty (Auburn, Maine/St. Johnsbury Academy) crushed RBI hits. 

The Beavers added one more in the bottom of the fifth to force the mercy rule as Alison Hamilton (Portsmouth, R.I./Portsmouth) slapped an RBI single into right field.

Kailyn Hill (Lisbon, Maine/Lisbon) tossed a complete game for the Beavers. Hill surrendered one earned run on six hits with five strikeouts.

In the second game, the bats came alive for 15 runs on 16 hits. Bond was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle as the senior was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBI.

UMF scored seven runs in the opening frame and 12 total through the first three innings. The first five hitters in the lineup combined for 13 hits 11 runs scored.

Hamilton extended her hitting streak to nine games after the doubleheader and Bond finished the afternoon 7-for-8 with four runs scored, four RBI, a home run, and a double. 

Emily Vitone (Westminster, Mass./Oakmont) picked up the win in game two. Vitone threw four innings before Abby Burdin (Guilford, Maine/Guilford) came in to shut the door for the final six outs. 

UMaine-Farmington travels to Bates for a doubleheader on Monday in the non-conference finale.
