WORCESTER, Mass. – UMaine Farmington junior Jenessa Talarico (Lewsiton, Maine/Lewiston) provided the game-winning goal at 61:16 to key a 3-2 non-conference field hockey victory at host WPI Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Beavers up their record to 5-1 as the Engineers dip to 4-5.

Talarico struck the ball from seven yards out to provide the heroics. Earlier in the half, she helped setup the Beavers game-tying marker in the 50th minute when her bid caromed off the post. Sophomore Andrea Stemm (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) poked home said rebound to even it up at 2-2. 

Junior Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) struck early for the visitors with following a corner at 5:18. WPI junior Sabrina Guzzi (Suffield, CT) sent a cross to senior Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, CT) who tied the game with her 10th career goal at 14:11.

The Engineers claimed the 2-1 advantage thanks to senior Allie Buckley's (Worcester, MA) fourth goal of the year with help from junior Izzy Garver (Owls Head, Maine) at 29:49. Sophomore Karen Noble(Mariaville, Maine) came up big when she denied a penalty shot taken by freshman Nickyia Lovely (Gardiner, Maine/Gardiner) with 29 seconds left in the first half.

Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) came off the bench to record two saves in the second half to secure the win.

The Engineers had the 13-12 edge in shots while the Beavers owned advantages in shots on-goal (8-6) and penalty corners (5-3).

Maine Farmington hosts Colby-Sawyer Saturday at 1pm.
