Field Hockey Tops Wheelock on the Road

BOSTON – University of Maine at Farmington field hockey (2-0) swept its weekend trip in Massachusetts with a 6-2 non-conference win at Wheelock College (1-2) on Sunday afternoon.

The Beavers tallied four goals in the first half. Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) notched the first goal for UMF less than a minute and a half into the game. Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Aratat) and Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) added unassisted goals before Talarico found the back of the cage with ten minutes remaining in the half.

Wheelock broke the shutout in the 53rd minute when Abbey Raymond scored the Wildcats' first goal of the contest.

Emma Martineau (Greene, Maine/Leavitt) answered back for the Beavers with an unassisted goal three minutes later.

After the Wildcats scored their second goal of the game, Katherine Merrill (Andover, Maine/Telstar) recorded her first career goal with the assist coming from Raymond.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) made a pair of stops between the pipes to earn the victory for UMF.

UMaine-Farmington travels to Becker College on September 10 to continue non-conference play.
