Box Score BANGOR, Maine – Senior forward Jenessa Talarico and Emma Martineau scored two goals to help Maine-Farmington (7-9)
topple Castleton (11-8), 4-3, in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) East Semi-Final field hockey match-up at
the Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Spartans controlled the pace of play early and claimed a 1-0 lead at 31:45 mark of the first half when
senior Mariah Linnett scored off a scrum in front of the opposing net. Jenessa Talarico netted the
equalizer 14 minutes later for UMaine-Farmington as Emmah Spahr fed Talarico with a perfect pass.
The Beavers grabbed the lead three minutes later, at 13:25, as Talarico added her second goal of the
half. She scored off her own rebound. UMaine-Farmington held onto a 2-1 lead into the half.
Tashia Pashby-Rockwood made two tremendous saves in the first half to keep Castleton in the game.
The Beavers had a 2-0 on a chance that was stonewalled by the sophomore netminder.
UMaine-Farmington and Emma Martineau took advantage of an early penalty shot and extended their
lead to 3-1 with 31:44 left in the second half.
In the 22nd minute, Rachel Holland shortened the UMF lead to 3-2 with a goal off a penalty corner.
Talarico completed her two-goal game off an assist from Martineau with a goal at the 3:16 mark. It would
eventually become the game-winning goal.
Emily Lowell wristed a penalty shot past the Maine-Farmington goalkeeper with 00:25 left in the game.
The score would end 4-3 with the Beavers moving onto the NAC East Championship.
THE KEEPERS:
UMaine-Farmington's Alyssa Arsenault posted 10 saves in the UMF victory while Tashia Pashby-
Rookwood recorded 24 stops in a losing effort.
TEAM STATS:
The Beavers held impressive leads in shots (37-22), shots on goal (28-13), and penalty corners (16-15) in
the victory.
