Spartans Sweep Beavers in Weekend Battle

Bangor, Maine – UMaine Farmington fell to Castleton University on Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) double header by a score of 11-1 and 3-2.

Records

The Beavers fall to 2-13 overall and 2-6 in conference play while the Spartans move to 15-5 overall and 6-2 in the NAC.

Game 1

Riley Chickering started for the Beavers, giving up six hits, six runs with four of them earned with one walk and a strike out. Devin Hayes was awarded the win for the Spartans after throwing a complete game four hitter with two walks and seven strike outs.

Castleton opened the game with a run in the first inning when Jonathan Lindau reached on fielder's choice to score Deagan Poland.  

The Beavers would get that run back in the bottom of the second when Nick Attaliades-Ryan singled to score Ethan Goiun.

Castleton really opened the game up in the later innings by scoring six in the fifth inning, three in the six and one in the seventh to give them a total of 11 runs on 13 hits.

Matt Jackson lead the Spartans in hitting after going 3-4 with two RBI's and a run.

Game 2

Nate Pushard started on the mound for the Beavers, throwing seven innings strong, giving up seven hits, two earned runs while striking out seven. Charles Stapleford started for the Spartans, throwing six innings, giving up six hits, no earned runs with four walks and six strikeouts.

The Beavers got on the board first in the bottom of the first when Derek Bowen led off with a single, was moved to second on a bunt by Jimmy Parks which allowed Jordan Croteau to score Bowen on a fielder's choice.

UMF would score their second run in the bottom of the fifth when Mark Leahy reached first on an error by the first basemen which allowed Jimmy Parks to score on the play.

The Spartans battled back and scored three unanswered runs with one in the sixth, one in the seventh and one in the ninth to take the 3-2 victory.
