Field Hockey Unable To Get By Bates

LEWISTON, Maine – UMaine-Farmington field hockey dropped a hard-fought 3-0 contest to the Bates Bobcats in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon in Lewiston.  It was the fifth straight road game to open the season for the Beavers.  The loss drops the Beavers to 1-4 on the season and Bates improves to 1-3.

Senior Caroline O'Reilly opened up the scoring in the first half, converting a pass from Samantha Reiss to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead that they would take into the break.

Bates continued to put pressure on the Beavers defense in the second half.  Freshman Lily Nygren found the back of the cage in the 49th minute and 12 minutes later senior Lauren Foster scored for the final margin of victory.

Junior Andrea Stemm led the Beavers offensively with two shots on goal. 

Junior Adelae Durand (1-3) recorded the win in goal for Bates, while UMF senior Alyssa Arsenault (1-3) was tabbed with the loss.

Bates outshot UMF 35-2 on the day and held a 10-1 advantage in penalty corners.

UMaine-Farmington continues on the road, traveling to Wheelock for a non-conference game on Sunday (11:00 am).
