Field Hockey Comes Up Short in NECC Semifinal

PURCHASE, NY - UMaine-Farmington field hockey ended its season with a 4-1 defeat to Thomas College in the NECC semifinal. UMF got up 1-0 in the second period but Thomas responded with four unanswered goals to put the game out of reach.  The Beavers end the season with an overall record of 5-14 and 5-4 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless first period, Alex Bessey was able to put UMF up 1-0 in the second period off a scrum in front of the goal. Gracie Foss assisted on the play
  • Thomas responded two minutes later off a penalty corner as Allie Gregoire scored off an assist from Haley Thebarge
  • The Terriers added another goal in the second period by Danita Storey to take a 2-1 lead into the half.
  • Britney Gregoire added to goals in the fourth, one a breakaway and another on a penalty stroke.

INSIDE THE BOX

  • Thomas held the advantage in shots 26-4 and in penalty corners 20-4
  • UMF keeper Katelyn Rouleau saved 11 shots in being tabbed with the loss
  • Bessey had two shots, Oliva Kunesh and Abby Pomerleau had one each to lead the Beavers offense.
