Field Hockey Drops Season Opener in Caryl Newhof Classic

NORTHAMPTON, MA - UMaine-Farmington field hockey dropped its season opener to SUNY Cortland 9-1 at the Smith College Caryl Newhof Classic. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Annie Kase scored the games first goal at the 11:34 mark of the 1st quarter.
  • Hannah Burchell added an unassisted goal in the first to give Cortland a 2-0 lead after one.
  • Cortland scored four unassisted goals in the second quarter to take a 6-0 lead into halftime
  • Olivia Kunesh scored the Beavers lone goal in the fourth quarter

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Grace DiMarco (0-1) made five saves on 14 shots on goal
  • Marisa D'Amico (1-0) didn't register a save in earning the win for Cortland
  • Cortland outshot UMF 19-7, but UMF had a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners
  • Abby Pomerleau lead UMF with two shots on goal
