Box Score FARMINGTON, Maine – Second half goals from Ginny Twitchell and Alex Bessey put the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey on top of visiting Manhattanville College, 2-0, in a New England Collegiate Conference matchup on Saturday at Prescott Field.
The win evened UMaine-Farmington's record at 3-3 overall, 1-1 in NECC play.
Neither team was able to put a number on the scoreboard through the opening two quarters of play, with the Valiants and the Beavers spending the majority of the first 30 minutes battling for possession in the middle half of the field.
Coming out of the halftime break, Twitchell finally shook her Manhattanville defender and got a shot away from just inside the top of the scoring circle. The attempt beat Valiant goalie Cat Morgan, putting the Beavers in front 1-0 with 11:35 remaining in the third quarter.
With time winding down in the fourth quarter, UMaine-Farmington added an insurance goal with 5:34 showing on the game clock. UMF's Lydia Wasina sent a long hit down the left sideline, where it was picked up by Bessey who outran challenges from two Manhattanville defenders before beating Morgan for the Beavers' second score of the game.
UMaine-Farmington outshot Manhattanville, 12-6, while the Valiants had an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners. Morgan finished with four saves in the Manhattanville goal, while UMF's Katelyn Rouleau charted four saves for the Beavers.
