Box Score WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College gained early momentum with a pair of goals in the opening quarter on finished with a 5-1 win over the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team, Wednesday evening at Bill Alfond Field.
The loss was UMaine-Farmington's first of the season after opening the 2021 campaign with back-to-back victories.
The Beavers' lone goal of the evening came at the 9:52 mark of the second quarter, when senior Alex Bessey beat Mules goalie Emily Loeb to cut the Colby lead to 3-1.
Sandrine Brien and Megan Rittenhouse each scored for Colby in the opening quarter and the Mules' Lillian Kistner added a score with 13:06 remaining in the second stanza, giving Colby a 3-0 advantage before Bessey struck for the Beavers.
Kistner responded for Colby with 5:49 remaining in the opening half, extending the Mules' lead to 4-1 at the halftime intermission.
After a scoreless third period, Pernilla Shaw capped the scoring with Colby's fifth score of the game with 1:29 showing on the game clock.
Colby outshot UMaine-Farmington, 32-4, with Grace DiMarco and Katelyn Rouleau combining for seven saves. The Mules charted nine penalty corner opportunities to the Beavers' none.
UMaine-Farmington field hockey is idle from competition for the next week and a half before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 18, when the Beavers host Thomas College at 1:00 p.m. on Prescott Field.
