Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

DAVENPORT, Florida – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team opened its Florida spring trip by dropping both ends of a doubleheader to the University of Minnesota Morris on Tuesday at the Northeast Regional Park. The Beavers dropped game two of the twinbill, 6-5, on a three-run walk-off home run by the Cougars, after posting a 15-0 loss in Minnesota-Morris in game one.

Game two opened with Troy Johnson belting a solo home run to left to give UMaine-Farmington a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, with Minnesota-Morris manufacturing a pair of runs in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The Cougars extended their advantage to 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth on David Steffen's RBI single.

The Beavers surged ahead with a four-run seventh inning. UMF opened the frame with a walk, an error, and a sacrifice bunt, all of which set the table for a two-run double into center field off the bat of Hunter LaBossiere to knot the game at 3-3.

Riley Bartell gave UMaine-Farmington a 5-3 lead on the next at bat with a two-run home run to left field, his eighth career round-tripper.

However, Minnesota-Morris opened the home half of the seventh with back-to-back singles by Logan Graves and Joe Pelle, and Alex Baumann homered to left field to give the Cougars the walk-off win.

LaBossiere led the Beavers at the plate in game two with a 2-for-3 effort and a walk. Reliever Aaron Goschke was charged with the loss after coming on in the fifth inning in relief of starter Will Harriman.

Baumann and Graves each had a pair of hits for Minnesota-Morris, with Baumann finishing the game with four RBI. Reliever Brian Vanyo got credit for the win after facing the Beavers in the top of the seventh.

In game one, Minnesota-Morris pounded out 15 runs on 15 hits while jumping out to a 7-0 lead after three innings. The Cougars only multiple RBI hits in game one were a two-run single by Pelle in the top of the fifth inning, and a two-run base hit by Steffen in the top of the seventh.

Derek Gendreau went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Beavers in game one. Four different pitchers saw action in the game with starter Bartell getting charged with the loss.

The Beavers will have Wednesday to recover from a tough travel day on Monday and Tuesday's doubleheader before returning to action on Thursday, March 17, when they face the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA). First pitch at Northeast Regional Park in Davenport, Florida, is scheduled for 9:15 a.m.
