Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BOSTON – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team's bats got going on Saturday against Wentworth Institute of Technology, but the Beavers struggled to push runs across and dropped a pair of games to the Panthers in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at Libby Field.

The Beavers fell to the Panthers, 13-3, in game one before getting stopped, 3-2, in the day's second game.

In game one, Wentworth jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two complete, but UMaine-Farmington rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the third. Riley Bartell singled home Hunter LaBossiere and Nate Coombs with a shot into center field, narrowing the margin to 4-2.

The Panthers responded with five runs in the home half of the third on four hits and one Beaver error, keyed by Nolan Freeman's two-run single into center field. Wentworth tacked on four runs in the fifth, three of those coming across on Christian Peruzzi's three-run double to center.

UMaine-Farmington added a single run in the top of the seventh when Derek Gendreau singled into center field, allowing Danny Terhune to score.

LaBossiere went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Beavers offensively. Five different pitchers saw action for UMF, with starter Lucas Tuttle taking the loss.

In game two, UMaine-Farmington struck first with a two-run top of the first, with Bartell and LaBossiere scoring on Tyler Lambert's two-RBI single down the left field line.

Wentworth manufactured two runs in the second on two hits, two walks, and a sac fly to tie the game at 2-2, and scored the go-ahead run in the third on a sacrifice fly that scored Freeman.

LaBossiere and Gendreau each had two hits in game two. Ky Morris was charged with the loss after going three innings on the hill for the Beavers.

UMaine-Farmington will return to action on Sunday, March 27, when the Beavers face Lesley University in a doubleheader starting at noon.
