Box Score 2 CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The University of Maine at Farmington baseball team dropped a pair of heartbreaking one-run losses at Lesley University on Sunday, falling 7-6 in game one and 2-1 in eight innings in game two.
UMaine-Farmington (0-8) rallied from a 5-3 deficit after five innings in game one with three runs in the top of the sixth. Hunter LaBossiere plated Nate Coombs with a double to left field, and Ryan Sargent and Will Cauchon each stroked RBI singles to force two more Beaver runs across to give UMF a 6-5 lead.
Lesley tied things up at 6-6 with a single run in the bottom of the sixth, and scored the game-winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh after a UMaine-Farmington error extended the inning. Colby Jacobs took advantage of the miscue to single home pinch runner Matthew Ceruti.
Sargent finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs batted in, while LaBossiere, Cauchon, and Riley Bartell each had two hits.
In game two, Lesley took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning but UMaine-Farmington rallied with a single run in the top of the third to tie the game at 1-1. LaBossiere scored on Bartell's single to right field, after LaBossiere reached on a hit by pitch.
After four scoreless innings, Lesley plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth. Adam Budorick got aboard on a leadoff single and later advanced to second, eventually scoring on Cal Caruso's RBI single to left-center.
Tyler Lambert went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Beavers in game two.
UMaine-Farmington baseball returns to action on Wednesday, March 30, when it travels to Waterville, Maine, to face Colby College. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
