Box Score 2 FARMINGTON, Maine -- Bates College managed to plate three runs in the top of the seventh, two of which were unearned, on its way to a 5-3 win over the University of Maine at Farmington softball team, in game one of the teams' non-conference doubleheader at Prescott Field.
UMaine-Farmington was unable to salvage a split out of the twinbill in game two, falling to Bates, 13-6.
In the day's opening game, Bates (7-11) broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top of the fifth, with UMaine-Farmington responding in the bottom of the frame when Olivia Paradis' base hit drove in Leah Stevens and Katie Hammer to tie the game at 2-2.
Bates regained the upper hand with a three-run uprising in the seventh on five hits and a UMaine-Farmington error, keyed by Janell Sato's two-out double down the left field line that plated Sarah Cooke and Grace Householter.
The Beavers rallied for one run in home half of the seventh on Christa Allen's single to second base, but Bobcat pitcher Maggie Hillwig induced a lineout to short to end the game.
In game two, the Beavers and the Bobcats traded the lead twice on big innings until a three-run fifth inning gave Bates a lead they held the rest of the way. Back-to-back triples by Emily Samar and Sarah Cooke accounted for a pair of runs, with Kennedy Ishii's single plating Cooke for the third run of the frame.
The Bobcats tacked on four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to seal the win.
After Bates opened the game with a four-run first inning, UMaine-Farmington pushed three runs across in the bottom of the first on Paradis' single coupled with a Bates error, followed by a double from Allen.
UMaine-Farmington took a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the third thanks to three more Beaver runs. Mackenzie Dyer and Taylor Veilleux each scored after drawing bases loaded walks, while Chelsea Davis singled into right field to score Makayla Wilson.
Wilson finished with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate in game two, while Paradis and Davis each had two hits.
Three Bates players - Ishii, Lindsey Kim, and Cameron Jones-McNally - each finished with three hits.
