WATERVILLE, Maine - Saturday afternoon marked the beginning of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Track and Field Championship. Fellow seniors Emily Hargreaves (New Gloucester, Maine) and Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) swept the opening hammer throw event to be crowned individual NAC Champions and 1st Team All-Conference recipients.
Hargreaves won the hammer throw with a throw marked at 40.30 meters. Hargreaves broke her own program record that was previously set at 39.95 meters with her championship winning throw. Ilana Lybarger (Brussels, Belgium) also scored for the Beavers, placing 4th overall with a throw of 34.70 meters.
On the men's side, Canwell broke the conference and program record with his throw of 53.40 meters to take home the gold medal. The throw from Canwell places him inside the top-50 in all of Division III. Alex Sheran (Nashua, N.H.) also had a great showing for the Beavers, placing 3rd overall with a throw marked at 39.46 meters. Alex Urszinyi (Lawrencville, N.J.) also scored well for Farmington, placing 6th overall with a 37.08 meter throw. Connor Demmons (Farmingdale, Maine) finished just outside the top-10 in 11th place with a throw marked at 28.83 meters.
The remaining events of the NAC Championship will take place tomorrow beginning at 10 AM.
