SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up their outdoor season on Friday and Saturday at the New England Regional Track and Field Championships hosted by Springfield College.
On Friday, Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) ran in the 100 meter hurdles, Alixx Canwell (Chelsea, Maine) competed in the hammer throw, and Ben Vachon competed in the long jump.
Johnson placed 21st in the 100 meter prelims, running to a time of 16.74 seconds.
Canwell scored in the hammer throw after being seeded 5th entering the event. His throw was marked at 50.38 meters to finish in 8th place overall.
Vachon placed 16th overall in the long jump after being marked at 6.52 meters.
On Saturday, Canwell competed in the shot put, Covy Dufort (Wells, Maine) ran in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, and the Beavers had a pair of relay teams race.
Canwell finished off his historical season by placing 12th overall in the shot put after his throw was marked at 13.78 meters.
Dufort, who was competing in his final collegiate meet, raced to a school record time of 9:48.70 to finish 8th overall, scoring a point, and breaking his own program record in the process.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Johnson, Abigail Minott (Bath, Maine), Cara Perry (Stoughton, Mass.), and Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) finished 19th overall, narrowly missing out on the program record, with a time of 52.90 seconds.
The men's 4x800 meter relay team of Justin Castaldo (Scarborough, Maine), Dufort, Jimmy Reel (Nashua, N.H.), and Connor Freeman (Bath, Maine) finished in 8:33.77 to take home 14th overall.
