Burton Ties For Medalist Honors, Beavers Place 2nd

WATERVILLE, Maine - Senior standout Jack Burton (Saco, Maine) continued his fantastic season on Thursday afternoon as he carded a four-over par, 74 en route to tying for the medalist honors at a match between the University of Maine at Farmington, Thomas College, the University of Maine at Presque Isle, the University of Maine at Augusta, and Southern Maine Community College. 

As a team, the Beavers placed 2nd overall, carding a four-man score of 326 (+46). Southern Maine Community College placed 1st overall, finishing 36-over par with a team score of 316.

Beaver Golfers

Burton, who was playing out of the one-spot today for Farmington, was on-top of his game from the very first hole. Burton carded six-straight fours to open his day. One of those fours was a birdie on the par-five 3rd hole. Burton finished with a three-over 38 on the front nine. Burton bogeyed just two holes on the back nine and birdied the par-four 14th to finish with a 36 on the back nine.

Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) started to find his swing, doing so at the exact right time of the season with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship just around the corner. LaRochelle III finished six-over par, shooting a 76. LaRochelle shot a 39 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine and did not card a birdie this afternoon.

Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine), who was playing out of the three-spot for the Beavers, carded an 85 (+15). Frey stayed out of trouble for a majority of the day, carding just a pair of sixes for the day. Frey finished with a 42 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine. 

Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine) found himself in a little bit of trouble throughout the afternoon but battled through the round to card a 91 (+21). Boinske shot a 45 on the front nine and a 46 on the back nine. Boinske served as the fourth scorer towards the teams overall score.

Gillean Hamilton played out of the five-spot today for the Beavers. Hamilton shot a 111 (+41) and did not contribute to the team's overall score. 

Derick Capp also played in today's event, playing in an exhibition capacity as the Beavers 6th golfer. Capp shot a 102 (+32) for the day.

UP NEXT

Tomorrow the Beavers will be competing in the UNE Invitational at the Cape Arundel Golf Club in their final tuneup before the NAC Championship.
