PORTLAND, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington golf team opened up their 2024 season on Friday afternoon at Riverside Golf Course competing in a tri-match hosted by the University of Southern Maine. Saint Joseph's College of Maine also competed at today's tri-match with the Beavers and the Huskies. Farmington carded a four-man score of 338 to finish +50 in their 3rd place finish.

USM took home first place as a team, carding a four-man score of 304 (+16). The Monks finished with a 323 (+35) to earn 2nd place. Taylor Farr of USM was today's medalist, finishing with a one-over 73 to beat out teammates Owen Moore and Sam Farr who carded 74's.

BEAVER GOLFERS:

Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) began the day on fire, birdying the first hole of the day and fishing with three birdies on the front nine, posting a 34 over the first nine holes. LaRochelle didn't find the same success on the back nine, carding one birdie and shooting a 45 to submit an 18-hole score of 79 (+7) and tied for 7th overall.

Jack Burton (Saco, Maine) was ultra-consistent for the Beavers, carding eight pars, a birdie and never registering anything higher than a five on a single hole. Burton shot a 40 on both the front and the back nine to finish the round with an 80 (+8) and placed 9th overall.

Beavers number-three golfer Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) shot a strong 42 on the front nine but couldn't replicate the same success on the back, finishing with a 52 on the back to card a 94 (+22).

First-year Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine) competed in his first collegiate golf event and carded an 89 (+17) as the Beavers 3rd lowest scorer. Boinske birdied the 8th hole and carried that momentum onto the back nine, shooting a 42 on the back, parring three holes.

Joey Wellman-Clouse (Bar Harbor, Maine) also made his collegiate debut. Wellman-Clouse shot an efficient 41 on the front nine but had just two bad holes on the back nine en route to a 49 on the back and an overall score of a 90 (+18).

Jackson Forrest (Portland, Maine) also competed today for the Beavers but did not contribute to the team's overall score. Today's event marked the first of Forrest's collegiate career. Forrest finished with an 18-hole score of a 92.
