Burton Cards Career-Low 74, Beavers take 4th at UMF Invitational

OAKLAND, Maine - Senior golfer Jack Burton (Saco, Maine), who has been remarkably consistent every round to this point this season, continued to do just that, carding a career-low 74 to help the Beavers to a 4th place finish at the annual UMF Invitational at the Waterville Country Club. As a team, the Beavers shot a four-man score of 327 (+47).

Husson University walked away with the team victory. The four-man group for the Eagles carded a three-over par 283. Chris Kauppila and Will Kavanaugh tied for the lowest round, an even-par 70 to earn medalist honors.

Beaver Golfers:

Golfing out of the number two spot for the Beavers, Burton had things rolling right away. On the very first hole, Burton stuck his 2nd shot within just a couple of feet and tapped in for an easy birdie. Burton finished with five pars and just two bogeys on the front nine to shoot a 37. Burton birdied hole 17 and parred four of the nine holes on the back nine, matching his front nine 37.

Farmington's number-one golfer, Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) didn't come out on the front nine the way he wanted to, posting a 42. A birdie on hole nine jump started LaRochelle to a nearly flawless back nine. LaRochelle III opened the back nine with four consecutive pars and added two more en route to a 37 to finish with a 79 (+9).

Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) battled back from a pair of tough holes on the front nine, and posted a 43 on the back nine. Frey shot a 46 on the front nine and finished with a score of 89 (+19) for the round.

Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine), similar to his teammates, turned a corner on the turn. After posting a 45 on the front nine, Boinske shot a 40 on the back to finish with an 85 (+15). Boinske had to take a two-stroke penalty on hole 18 that prevented him from breaking forty on the back nine.

First-year Jackson Forrest (Portland, Maine) golfed out of the five-spot for the Beavers today. Forrest finished with a 95 (+25) and did not contribute to the team's overall score.
