Beavers Shoot Lowest Round of the Season, Place 2nd Overall

OAKLAND, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington golf team is trending in the right direction with the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship a little less than a month away. The four golfers who scored for the Beavers today all shot an 82 or lower, and carded a team score of 321, the lowest team score of the season to this point.

Tuesday's event was a quad match against Southern Maine Community College, Thomas College, and the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Southern Maine Community College squeaked out the narrow victory, topping the Beavers by two strokes, finishing with a 319 four-man score.

Beaver Golfers:

Reigning NAC Golfer of the Week, Jack Burton, kept rolling with another solid round on Tuesday afternoon. Burton shot a 37 on the front nine and sat just one over par heading into the back nine. Burton maintained a relatively clean card on the back nine, totaling a 41 to produce a 78 (+8) for the day. Burton carded one birdie, birdying the 378 yard par-four 8th.

Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) carded a 43 on the front nine, parring two of his final three holes to pick up some momentum heading into the back nine. On the back nine, LaRochelle III stayed ultra consistent en route to a 39 and an overall score of an 82 (+12) out of the two-spot for Farmington.

Third-hole golfer Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) produced the lowest tournament score of his career, finishing with a strong 79 (+9) to help the Beaver to their 2nd place finish. Frey started the round on fire, parring six holes and birdying another on the front nine en route to a 37. Frey continued his stellar play on the back nine, finishing with a 42 with three pars.

Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine) had the best round of his young career, carding an 82 (+12) with matching 41s on the front and the back nine. Boinske stayed out of trouble for most of the day, carding just two double bogeys in a nearly flawless round.

Gillean Hamilton played out of the five-spot for the Beavers today. Hamilton finished with a 103 (+33) with a 55 on the front and a 48 on the back nine. Hamilton did not contribute to the team's overall score.
