Golf Takes 2nd Place at SMCC Invitational

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine - The University of Maine at Farmington placed 2nd overall at the Southern Maine Community College Invitational hosted at the Purpoodock Country Club. The Beavers totaled a three-man score of 247 in their 2nd place effort. The hosts topped the field, shooting a three-man score of 237.

Beaver Golfers:

Senior Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) carded the lowest score of any Beaver on the course, finishing the round with a nine-over par, 80. LaRochelle III carded matching 40s on the both the front and the back nine, birdying the 9th and 18th holes.

Senior Jack Burton (Saco, Maine) finished three strokes behind LaRochelle III, carding an 83 (+12). Burton finished with a 41 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine. Burton played out of the two-spot for the Beavers on Sunday.

Senior Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine) finished just one stroke back of Burton, carding a 13-over par, 84. Freyy shot a 40 on the front nine and a 44 on the back nine. Frey birdied the par-three 9th hole finishing off the front nine on a high-note.

LaRochelle, Burton, and Frey were the three Beaver golfers to contribute to the team's overall score. First-years Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine) and Jackson Forrest (Portland, Maine) were the 4th and 5th golfers today, and did not contribute to the team's score. Boinske carded an 89 (+18) and Forrest finished with a 102 (+31).

UP NEXT

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday, competing in the Mariner Invitational at the Augusta Country Club.
