Golf Takes 6th at 21st annual Queenan Memorial

CASCO, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington golf team posted a strong four-man score of 336, good for 48-over par, en route to a 6th place finish at the John Queenan Memorial Tournament hosted by Saint Joseph's College of Maine at Point Sebago Golf Club.

Gordon College took home the team trophy with a score of 312 (+24), finishing three strokes ahead of the University of Southern Maine. Mario Matteao of Gordon College and Alex Fournier of the University of Southern Maine each shot a three-over 75 to share medalist honors.

Beavers Golfers:

Neil LaRochelle III (Lisbon, Maine) continued his strong start to the 2024 golf season. LaRochelle III carded an 80 (+8) to tie for 8th overall in a crowded 50-man field. He shot a 40 on both the front and back nine, recording a birdie on the par-four 6th hole en route to his 80.

Jack Burton (Saco, Maine), known for his consistency throughout his golf career at Farmington, continued his solid play, finishing the round with an 82 (+10). He registered a 41 on both the front and back nine to place tied for 17th overall.

Chris Frey (Auburn, Maine), playing from the three spot for the Beavers this season, had another respectable round, shooting an 89 (+17) across 18 holes to finish tied for 34th. Frey shot a 45 on the front nine and a 44 on the back.

Joey Wellman-Clouse (Bar Harbor, Maine), competing in just his 3rd collegiate event, struggled to find his swing, finishing with a 108 (+36). Wellman-Clouse played in the four spot for the Beavers but did not contribute to the team's overall score, placing 47th overall.

Cooper Boinske (Westfield, Maine) stepped into the five spot after participating in an exhibition event on Tuesday. Boinske registered the best round of his young career, carding an 85 with a 39 on the front nine and a 46 on the back. He birdied the par-3 2nd hole to start his round strong.

The Beavers will compete in the USM Cup on Saturday at the Riverside Golf Course in Portland, Maine.
