GORHAM, Maine – The University of Maine at Farmington headed south on Saturday, competing at the University of Southern Maine Open for its second meet of the early season. The meet was not scored for team results.

Farmington turned in several standout performances, highlighted by junior Lina Martinez Nocito (Mt. Vernon, Maine), who ran away from the field in the 5,000 meters, finishing with a time of 19:10.69. Martinez Nocito's time was more than 30 seconds faster than any other competitor in the event.
First-year Jenney Lutz (Lebanon, N.H.) posted a pair of top-five finishes, placing fourth in the 55 meters and fifth in the triple jump. Lutz clocked a time of 7.78 seconds in the 55 meters, while her top mark in the triple jump measured 10.20 meters. Fellow first-year Sadie Pierce (China, Maine) earned fourth place in the triple jump with a leap of 10.56 meters.
Senior Erica Johnson (Nobleboro, Maine) earned a second-place finish in the long jump, with her best and final attempt measuring 5.32 meters. Johnson also placed fourth in the pole vault, clearing 2.35 meters.
In the high jump, Heather Alexander (Orleans, Vt.) tied for fifth, while Emma Syphers (Bangor, Maine) placed seventh and Kennedy Todd (Scarborough, Maine) finished eighth. All three cleared 1.37 meters, with Alexander doing so on her first attempt, Syphers on her second, and Todd on her third. Alexander added a sixth-place finish in the 300 meters, clocking a time of 48.01 seconds. Todd also recorded a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters, posting a time of 28.56 seconds.
Abby MacDonald (Bangor, Maine) and Alayna Marchessault (Thomaston, Maine) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the 1,000 meters. MacDonald recorded a time of 4:09.15, while Marchessault crossed the line in 4:32.91.
Sophomore Monica Lewis (Windham, Maine) posted a strong performance in the 500 meters, finishing fourth with a time of 1:43.33.

Farmington will be off for a month before returning to action at the Bates Invitational on January 16 and 17.
