LaFlamme Sets 3K Program Record and Qualifies for New England Regionals at Mules Tune-Up

WATERVILLE, Maine - University of Maine at Farmington men's track and field junior standout Andrew LaFlamme (Nashua, N.H.) had an extremely successful day competing in the 3,000 meters at the Mule Tune-Up, hosted by Colby College on Saturday.

LaFlamme finished the race with a stellar time of 8:50.41, placing fourth overall. With the performance, LaFlamme provisionally qualified for the New England Regional Championships and set a new program record in the event.

Several other Beavers delivered standout performances as they gear up for the Regional Championships set to take place next weekend. Senior Nate Trussell (Berwick, Maine) earned a fourth-place finish in the 60 meters, crossing the line in 7.27 seconds.

First-year Lucas Witkowski (Cromwell, Conn.) also secured a fourth-place finish, doing so in the 600 meters. Witkowski posted a time of 1:29.94, just four tenths of a second shy of third place.

The Beavers had three runners finish inside the top eight of the 5,000 meters. Senior James Riley (Shrewsbury, Mass.) placed second overall, finishing in 16:04.04. Sophomores Alex Gagnon (Goffstown, N.H.) and Samuel Perkins (Jay, Maine) placed seventh and eighth, respectively. Gagnon recorded a time of 16:42.38, while Perkins finished in 16:49.72.

First-year Chase Nixon (Milton, Mass.) completed the 60-meter hurdles in 9.40 seconds, earning a seventh-place finish overall.

Sophomore Owen Booker (Lisbon, Maine) also added a seventh-place finish in the long jump, with his best attempt measuring 6.36 meters.

In the shot put, Alex Crews (Winslow, Maine), Noel Matista (Danbury, Conn.), and James Fenton (Portland, Maine) each delivered strong performances. Crews' best throw measured 13.13 meters en route to a fourth-place finish. Matista placed 10th with a throw of 10.89 meters, while Fenton finished 12th with a top mark of 9.84 meters.

The trio also competed in the weight throw, with each placing inside the top eight. Matista led the group with a third-place finish at 12.48 meters. Crews earned sixth with a throw of 11.12 meters, and Fenton placed eighth with a best mark of 9.96 meters.

UP NEXT

The Beavers will travel to Boston, Massachusetts, next Sunday for the New England Regional Championships.
