FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team scored three times in the opening 15:06 and rolled to a 5-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Rivier College today at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (8-6 overall, 5-1 in the NAC) are scheduled to close out their regular season with a key NAC clash Monday at Prescott Field against Castleton State College at 2 p.m. The Raiders (2-10, 0-7) are slated to finish its regular season Thursday at Gordon College.
Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) tallied two goals for Farmington with Alyssa St. Pierre (Jay, ME) and Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) each contributing a goal. Jessica Martin (Winthrop, ME) also scored a goal for the Beavers, who held advantages in shots (38-5) and penalty corners (23-3).
Deans opened the scoring at 10:53 off an Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) pass for a 1-0 edge for the hosts with Hattie Agnew following off a feed from Annie Agnew (Guilford, ME) at 11:43 to push the advantage to 2-0. St. Pierre scored off a Deans assist at 15:06 for a 3-0 score at intermission.
Hattie Agnew (from St. Pierre) and Martin scored second-half goals en route to the 5-0 victory.
Sarah Brown (Windham, ME), Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, ME) and Kristi Geaumont (Old Orchard Beach, ME) each handed a hand in the shutout for Farmington. Taylor made a pair of saves, while Brown and Geaumont each had a stop.
Jenna Beadle (Rumney, NH) made 22 saves for Rivier.
