WENHAM, Mass. -- The University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team blanked Gordon College 5-0 in its season opener on a sunny afternoon at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The Beavers (1-0) are tabbed to play the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday at 4 p.m.

The Beavers won their opening game on the strength of 4 second half goals after taking a 1-0 lead into the half.

Hattie Laliberte (Guilford, Maine) scored the first two goals of the game, tallying in the 20th minute and again, shortly after the beginning of the second half.  Emma Deans (Gorham, Maine), Jessica Martin (Winthrop, Maine) and Kaitlyn Bullen (Farmington, Maine) each scored single markers.

Sarah Brown (Windham, Maine) had one save in picking up the shutout.  The Beavers outshot Gordon 15-5.

Freshman goalkeeper Anna Bury had a busy day and she made 5 saves for Gordon (0-4).
