FARMINGTON, Maine – A pair of late University of Southern Maine goals proved to be the difference as the Huskies posted a 4-2 field hockey win over the University of Maine at Farmington, Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field.

With the game knotted at 2-2, Southern Maine's Rachel Trafton scored what proved to be the game winner with 4:28 remaining in the second half, on a penalty corner with an assist going to Whitney Mower. The Huskies' Peyton Dostie added an unassisted insurance goal barely over a minute later.

Southern Maine (4-1) jumped on the board first, scoring the only goal of the first half with 27:10 with an unassisted marker by Stephanie Lomasney.

UMaine-Farmington (0-2) replied  at the 22:19 mark of the second stanza, on Lily Barry's (Hermon, Maine/Hermon) put-back of a loose rebound to knot the game at 1-1. The two teams traded goals over the next 10 minutes of play, with USM's Ariel Kaplan scoring a penalty corner goal to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead, and Barry again replying for the Beavers. That left the game tied at 2-2 with 13:43 remaining in the contest, setting the stage for the late USM comeback.

USM outshot UMaine-Farmington 13-10, including a 10-5 advantage in the second half. The Huskies also had a 10-4 advance in penalty corner opportunities.

The Beavers' Curran Brierley turned aside five of the Huskies' nine shots on goal during the game, while USM's Kayla Kennedy was credited with six saves.

UMaine-Farmington remains at home for its next contest on Saturday, Sept. 15, when it hosts Rivier College at 2:00 p.m. at Prescott Field.
