SENIOR DAY

Saturday's game will feature the top two teams in the conference as the regular season is winding down and teams are battling for the top spots. On Saturday, we will also say good-bye and thank you to three seniors. Chelsea Morley, Meghan Hughes, and Meghan Plant will be honored before Saturday's game in celebration of their careers.

LAST MEETING

UMaine-Farmington gave up two unanswered goals on two occasions as the Eagles topped the Beavers, 4-1, a year ago.

Senior Kashley Weymouth scored the Beavers' lone goal with 2:31 left in the first half, answering two goals scored earlier in the frame but the Beavers could not gather any more ground on the Eagles, as Taylor Lovley scored with 23:37 remaining in the second half to extend Husson's lead to 3-1. Liz Noddin effectively put the game beyond reach with 10:35 showing on the clock, scoring off an assist from Lovley.Lovley and Noddin each scored once in the first half for Husson as well.

UMaine-Farmington outshot Husson, 31-16, including an 18-8 margin in shots on goal. UMF goalie Curran Brierley finished the day with four saves, while Husson's Maicee Gustin charted 17 stops.

The Beavers had 18 penalty corner opportunities to Husson's 12.

WEEK RECAP

The Beavers stayed undefeated in conference play last weekend after shutting out Colby-Sawyer, 5-0.  Five different UMF players as the Beavers exploded with four, second half goals.

UMF goals came from Carly Raymond nearly three minutes into the game and then Sarita Crandall increased the score to, 2-0, in the 37th minute. Rebecca Young added a goal of her own only 1:26 later.

Mara Balboni scored her fifth goal of the season in the 46th minute and Andrea Beaulieu added the final goal of the game two minutes later.

PUT IT ON THE BOOOARRRD….YESSS!!!

UMF leads the conference in nearly every offensive statistic. The Beavers lead the NAC in goals scored with 39, which tops Thomas who ranks second with 27 goals scored.  UMF averages 4.3 goals per game, nearly double compared to the rest of the conference as Husson averages 2.3 goals per game. UMF has scored at least five goals in five of the nine games so far this season, a feat no other NAC team can say.

Chelsea Morley and Carly Raymond find themselves at the top of the leaderboard in the individual statistics. Morley likes the number five as she has scored five goals (t-3rd in the NAC) and dished five assists (leads the NAC) and recorded 15 points (3rd in NAC).  Raymond leads the NAC with 8 goals scored and 17 points.

The Beavers are solid on defense as well, only allowing 1.89 goals per game, best in the conference. UMF keeper Patty Smith is second in the conference in goals allowed and goals-against average, and ranks third in shot percentage.

EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND

Carly Raymond has been named the North Atlantic Conference Rookie of the Week for the second consecutive week.

Raymond scored her conference-leading eighth goal of the season in a 5-0 win over Colby-Sawyer on Saturday. The rookie also added an assist in the five-goal victory to help capture the points lead in the NAC.

Raymond currently holds the freshman record for most goals in a season and tied for 10th in UMF's history for most goals in a season.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

Husson is coming into Saturday's game off two shutout wins against Thomas and Castleton and getting shutout by #2 ranked Bowdoin, 3-0, Wednesday night. UMF saw similar results with the Polar Bears as the Beavers fell short, 4-0, and Bowdoin was the top ranked team in the nation at the time.

Husson is lead by sophomore midfielder Libby Kain who leads the Eagles with five goals scored, tying her for third in the conference with Morley. Kain also leads the teams with 11 points, tying her with Mara Balboni and two other players for fifth in the conference. Taylor Lovely and Taylor Shaw follow Kain's lead with four goals apiece and an assist.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

The Beavers will have to keep their eye on Libby Kain who has scored three of her five goals in the past two games. She contributed two goals in a 7-0 rout of Thomas on September 27th and a goal in the 5-0 shutout of Castleton.

UMF will have their hands full with Eagle goalie Abby Geenleaf as well.  The freshman keeper has earned back-to-back NAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and was selected Corvias ECAC Field Hockey Co-Rookie of the Week. Greenleaf is one of the best goalies in the conference, statistically speaking.  She is third in goals against, fourth in the NAC with a .776 save percentage, and fourth in goals-against average.

Carly Raymond has scored a goal in three straight games and six of nine games this season. Raymond has taken 15 shots on goals and her eight goals gives her a .444 shooting percentage, third best in the conference among players who have taken at least four shots on goal.
