Box Score BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine Farmington (2-4) defeated the host Wildcats 9-0 in a non-conference showdown at Winsor Field. Wheelock (1-4) was able to stay close through much of the hot and sunny game, but the Beavers pulled away in the second half to earn a win.
UMF was able to put pressure on the Wildcats early with two shots and multiple corners. The Beavers connected on a corner when senior Jenessa Talarico sent home a blocked shot from Andrea Stemm in the seventh minute. The Beavers would strike again just over one minute later when Talarico would send a shot from the top of the arc towards goal and Kyla Sturtevant would get the deflection into the back of the net to give UMF a two-goal lead.
UMF would get one more goal in the first half on another corner. Stemm would send the ball to the top of the arc to a waiting Torrie Nightingale. Nightingale would waste no time in passing the ball to Emma Martineau who would slam the ball past the Wildcats goalie.
The remaining 18 minutes of the half would remain scoreless and the Beavers would go into halftime leading 3-0.
